The Eisco Garage Physics line is aimed at students interested in STEM concepts included physics and engineering. Each kit engages learners to discover new ideas about the physical world through assembly and play.
Every object has a center of mass, and when placed on another surface, a base of support. When an object’s center of mass is above the base of support, the object will balance, even if momentarily. If the base of support is flat, the object will balance stably. This kit shows this principle in dramatic fashion by balancing a full two liter bottle cantilevered at an angle with only indirect support. This simple experiment allows students to explore the key concepts of balance, center of mass, and stability. This guide is provides ideas for age appropriate discussion and interaction between educator and student. A 2 liter bottle, either full or empty, is required to explore the concepts in full. A small scale and a of couple rulers are necessary for older students to be able to calculate the center of mass in the balancing direction. Wood is high quality precision-cut Birch veneer pure bond plywood.
