Chalcopyrite is a copper-iron sulfide, with similarities to pyrite. When exposed to acidic conditions, the metals in the chalcopyrite undergo oxidation, turning brilliant shades of blue, green, and purple. This iridescent luster has led to the term 'peacock ore' to describe these samples.

These samples of peacock ore are between 2 and 2.5" in length, and weigh between 3 and 6 ounces (80-170 grams). They fit nicely in the hand, and are a good size for keeping on a desk or among other samples in a display case.

All our chalcopyrite is mined in Mexico.

Samples vary naturally, and may not look identical to those pictured.
