PTC & Control Test Strip Experiment Set, 2 Vials - Genetic Taste Testing
- Set of 2 vials - PTC and Control. Comes with enough strips for 100 experiments (more if you cut the strips in half)
- PTC (phenylthiocarbamide) only has a taste to 7 out of 10 people
- Control strip is included to make sure experiments can be run with scientific accuracy
- Perfect for a demonstration of genetics and heredity
- Each strip measures 6mm x 48mm
Set of two vials - PTC & Control Test Strips are used to determine whether a person is a "super taster". These small, disposable test papers are commonly used to detect the presence of phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) tasting ability. PTC is a chemical compound that some people are able to taste, while others cannot. PTC paper strips are used in various scientific and medical settings to determine whether an individual has the genetic ability to taste PTC. When placed on the tongue, the PTC coated strip dissolves and releases the PTC compound, which interacts with the taste receptors in the mouth. If an individual is able to taste the PTC, they will experience a bitter or unpleasant taste, while those who cannot taste PTC will not notice any particular taste. The control strip is included to make sure the experiment can be run with scientific accuracy.
PTC paper strips are easy to use and are commonly used in educational settings to demonstrate the principles of genetics and inheritance. They are also used in research studies to explore the genetic basis of taste and other traits.
Two clear storage vials each contain 100 paper strips, each measuring 6mm x 48mm.
